After restoring my dream car, my old 1999 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4, we decided to drive it to the start of the Dustball Rally - 700 miles away from our starting point in Dallas. Unfortunately, things didn't exactly go as planned.

Hey Freddy, (This is Zlatko lol) It was a pleasure rallying with you guys. That Tire was a pain in the butt to find!
My co-driver John and one of the Dustball photographers (Jerry) drove to about 4 different tire shops with none of them having anything in stock. The Tire shop in Santa Fe only had one left, not even a pair to match, so we snatched it up right then and there to make sure you guys could stay in the game!

Reminds me of when I drove cross country with my brother and dad and our brakes failed less than 30 minutes in. We got calipers and pads, drove back home and replaced the brakes. We still managed to get 4 hours of driving in that night. The only scary part was going down the mountains later in the trip.

This is why I always bring a full sized spare and run metal valve stems, I've had this happen several times before but now I'm prepared!

You are going on a rally run and NOT replace your carrier bearings ? There is way too much play there. They are an inexpensive and easy repair. Would have made a much smoother ride as well.

What jiggery-pockery is going on here...?
The tyre on the ground, which was easily identifiable as a Bridgestone RE003, is NOT the tyre the tyre guy is putting on the rim...?
    What's the deal Tavarish...?

Lucky you didn't have a nasty wreck. I had my driver side tire go flat at 70 mph one morning, the road was a little wet from rain and I slid sideways off the hwy and into the dirt bank, bouncing along till the car finally caught on the dirt it was plowing up and flipped onto it's top. Good times!

Pretty ballsy move, going on a long road trip with no means to replace a blown tyre!

Congratulations on finding one of these beauties. I’ve always liked the last version of the 3000GT/GTO the most. Hope you get many many many miles from that car.
