    Use a hardwood, use the same dimension post. Then find someone with a wood lathe and turn it down to proper dimension, cross drill and bolt like you did, and then roll on some coats of flex seal or bed liner!

    You should use a center piece of wood, this one was a tree split into four pieces and breaking the rings like that make you loose most of its durability. Then it will hold upp a lot better, probably not very good tho :p
